Valu helps you check whether you are overpaying for a product by searching
real market listings. We are committed to collecting only what is
necessary to provide this service and nothing more.
What We Collect
Barcode & search queries — the barcodes you scan or
product names you search, used to find prices.
Scan history — a record of your past scans (barcode,
product name, price at scan time), stored under your anonymous account
so we can notify you if a price drops.
Price alerts — the target price you set for a product,
stored so we can send you a notification when the price drops.
Push notification token — a device token provided by
Expo, used solely to deliver price drop notifications.
Country & currency preference — stored locally on your
device to show prices in your currency.
What We Do Not Collect
Your name, email address, or phone number
Your precise location (country is detected once via GPS only if you
choose "Use my location", and is not stored on our servers)
Payment or financial information
Any information that could personally identify you
Anonymous Authentication
Valu uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication. You are assigned a random,
anonymous user ID automatically — no account creation or personal
information is required. This ID is used solely to associate your scan
history and alerts with your device.
Third-Party Services
Valu integrates with the following third-party services to function:
Google Firebase / Firestore — stores your scan history
and price alerts. Subject to
Google's Privacy Policy.
Expo Push Notifications — delivers price drop
notifications to your device. Subject to
Expo's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
Scan history is retained for 90 days from the date of the scan.
Price alerts are retained until triggered or deleted by you.
Your anonymous account and all associated data can be deleted by
contacting us.
Children
Valu is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect
data from anyone under 13 years of age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the date at
the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the app after changes
constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
